Discovering High Blood Pressure

At Latus Health we are dedicated to striving to provide an excellent service to our clients, Health surveillance is a routine process we undertake daily but through this routine process we occasionally pick up on possible health related complications. A common one that is encountered is Hypertension, or high blood pressure.

There are numerous reasons you may get a high blood pressure reading commonly “white coat syndrome” but our nurses and technicians are all trained to recognise this and utilise a step by step policy to identify clients who are at medical risk and a process to follow as to how to manage this situation.


We adhere to The National Institute of Clinic Excellence  (NICE) for our recommendations and advice so they are always current and evidence based and strict criteria to follow, as we appreciate our employers do not want us sending everyone home with a potential high blood pressure, however in some circumstances this is necessary as it is either a medical emergency or they are employed in a safety critical job such as driving for which we then have a duty of care to both the client and the employers to follow this up with recommendations that they attend a GP or A&E for immediate medical advice.


By following this guidance we have potentially saved many lives from heart attack, stroke or long term complications by correctly identifying clients with Hypertension who were previously unaware as many do not have regular blood pressure checks with a GP but only through Health Surveillance with their employers,  as such it is a crucial minimally invasive process that has provided these clients with correct medication and greatly reducing their risk of further health complications, ultimately saving the company a financial implication of long term sickness/redundancy or dismissal through ill health.

At Latus Health we have a commitment to our employers so a robust process is also in place to follow up these individuals therefore putting the liability onto the individual once this condition has been identified with them having the responsibility to ensure they follow up on our recommendations and provide evidence to both us as a company and their employers Human Resources department for if the condition has an impact on their future work capacity.
